Convergence
"Good old voice telephony " was yesterday. Current Samsung mobile phones are equipped with many innovative technologies which make mobile telephony comfortable, and complement it with additional features while supporting a wide range of new applications.
Combining the provision and use of several technologies is what we call convergence' and Samsung advances it with always new and interesting new products. A number of current and future scenarios for convergence exist. Some examples are listed below:
The combination of GSM/UMTS-voice telephony with Bluetooth-radio technology enables comfortable communication by means of headsets and - what it much more important - the safe use of mobile phones while driving a car.
The integration of photo and video cameras into mobile phones is the precondition for sending MMS and for video telephony and multi-media video-conferences in future.
Mobile phones with integrated GPS-receivers provide access to so-called localised services which support the user in navigating through towns, by showing nearby shopping facilities ('points of interest') or help locating friends and relatives.
DMB- or DVB-H-receivers in mobile phones allow the mobile user to receive TV-programmes in high quality. However, mobile TV means not just to consume a programme - the user may also participate interactively. The data involved are transported to the makers of the programmes by GPRS or UMTS.
The combined use of network access technologies like GSM, UMTS, WLAN and WiMAX offers for users full and seamless area coverage and supply of transmission services to satisfy the users needs. The respective network access can be selected dynamically and with consideration of the price and the required band width. In case the connection to a specific kind of network gets cut it will be re-established seamlessly through another access.
